I Found Myself on Twitter....

I found myself on twitter...

Sounds wonky but it is true. Twitter helped me to figure out what the fuck I was going to do with my life. I started my twitter account long before I was ready for it and I found myself wandering through the Internet aimlessly.

While job hunting, I came across a blog, Careerealism that has impacted every aspect of my job search and career goals. Even if you are content in you career status, I recommend this site to everyone.  An article about job searching led me to understand the power of Twitter and taught me the art of tweeting.

Teena Rose published an e-book that was offered free to readers of Careerealism, a fabulous blog for job seekers full of tips on all aspects of the job search. Teena Rose's e-book, Get Job Leads Fast Using Twitter, is a 40 page goldmine of Twitter information. Yes, it is specific to job leads, but it is also the perfect how-to guide. Twittering, tweeting and the like is an art-form in and of itself. It takes time and energy to use Twitter to effectively.

Twitter can be tricky if you are unaware of how it works and if you are just following Justin Beiber than you are wasting its potential.  Through the use of Twitter, I came to the realization that I wanted to write. It is an obvious choice for me. I have always enjoyed writing and I am good at it. Why did it take all these years and a random social media outlet for me to figure it out??

Through Twitter, I have been able to connect with amazing people and wonderful writers that I would have otherwise never known. The list of people who have helped or inspired me is great but I do want to mention a few that have specifically impacted me on Twitter.

Linda Formichelli is a fountain of information on freelance writing. She is generous and incredibly nice.

Rocco Tenaglia is my cousin-in-law and a ridiculously funny young man. He realized his goals at the perfect time and allows me to talk through my own as I learn what they are. We share the desire to write and entertain the masses. He was the first person I followed on Twitter.

Jenny Lawson is the funniest blogger I have ever come across. I feel a little like I know her and a lot like I want to hug her. It is creepy and fabulous all at once. As The Bloggess, she taught me to embrace my own voice and point of view.

Without Twitter, I would have never been able to directly connect with these influential writers. I would continue to feel lost and alone in my quest to be published.

Many of my peers don't believe in the awesome of Twitter but I promise if you give Twitter a chance, Twitter will give back to you in an unexpected way.

How has social media impacted your life? Comment!!
